DRUG DISCOVERY INITIATIVE AWARDS: NEXT DEADLINE AUGUST 31ST The Children's Tumor Foundation Drug Discovery Initiative (DDI) program funds early-stage screening of candidate neurofibromatosis (NF) drugs for any manifestation of NF1, NF2 or schwannomatosis. The DDI Awards program forms the backbone of the Children’s Tumor Foundation-fundedNF candidate drug pipeline. Through DDI, the NF Preclinical Consortiumand the Clinical Trials Awardprogram the Foundation is currently supporting drug testing bench-to-bedside from cell-based assays in vitro to pilot clinical trials. DDI Award Outcomes to Date (summer 2010): · SCALE: 33 DDI Awards funded ranging $11,000 - $50,000 (read about past and current awardees here) · LEVERAGINGFUNDS: Recipients of concluded awards totaling around $500,000 have obtained approximately $4M in follow on funding from sources including NIH, CDMRP NFRP, institutional funds and pharmaceutical companies. · INDUSTRY COLLABORATIONS: 16 DDI projects have developed industry collaborations. · PUBLICATIONS: 18 publications attributed to DDI Award funding.
DDI Awards offers:
· In vitro DDI Awards provide up to $15,000 for cell-basedscreens · In vivo DDI Awards provide up to $30,000 for animal model screens · DDI Advanced Awards up to $50,000 to continue outstanding in vivo research projects
