Texas Neurofibromatosis Foundation® and CTF Expand Research Collaboration PDF Print E-mail

The Texas Neurofibromatosis Foundation® (TNFF) and Children’s Tumor Foundation (CTF) are delighted to announce the expansion of our neurofibromatosis research collaboration that commenced in 2010. TNFF have offered to fund a $30,000 CTF Drug Discovery Initiative Award to Dr. David Largaespada, at the University of Minnesota to assess candidate combination drug therapies in a new mouse model of NF1 plexiform neurofibromas. This funding supports continuation of research initially funded by a $15,000 CTF DDI Award in 2010 and which has shown great promise.  The TNFF-CTF collaboration began in 2010 with TNFF’s support of the second year of a Young Investigator Award to Dr. Jody Fromm in Karen Cichowski’s laboratory at Harvard Medical School, studying candidate drug treatments for NF1 MPNSTs.

TNFF and CTF are partners in the mission of finding effective treatments for NF, and improving the quality of life for those living with the disorder.  We both represent the one in 3,000 people who live with NF and their families.  By partnering together we ensure the very best research is funded wherever it may be.

Both TNFF and CTF recognize the importance of this landmark partnership to ensure the most critical NF research gets funded. Both awardees were identified through CTF’s open-competition Request for Applications and pre-review process then selected by TNFF for support.   We hope to continue this partnership until we find treatments and ultimately a cure for NF.
