What is the NF Walk?
NF Walk is a national program in which communities rally around individuals and families affected by NF. NF Walks are non-competitive, relaxed, celebratory events designed to champion the individuals who every day live with the challenges of NF. If you are unable to walk, you are welcome to come along and enjoy the day’s event and activities!
In 2009, the NF Walk program had its strongest year yet nearly doubling funds raised in 2008. The program is growing in popularity, coupled with its minimal costs, make the NF Walk an ideal fundraising tool to advance research. |
 |
NF Walks are organized at parks, schools or tracks in local communities with anywhere from 30-300 individuals. Foundation staff work with volunteers to coordinate the Walk, provide T-shirts and wristbands, and assist in online fundraising needs.
|
|
Our goal for 2010-2011 is to host 50 WALKS nationally with at least 5,000 PEOPLE and raise $500,000 all for ONE CAUSE. To reach our goal, we need your help!

-
Come up with event ideas: There are all kinds of walks that include a variety of activities. Search the internet and your local community for ideas or ask a Children’s Tumor Foundation staff member.
-
Set a fundraising goal: Work with a Children’s Tumor Foundation staff to help determine your fundraising goal.
-
Fundraise: Utilize the online fundraising tool provided by the Children’s Tumor Foundation to set up registration and donations for your walk. Participants are encouraged to raise funds through contributions made to a personalized webpage and donations sent by mail.

Walk for a cure for NF!
Starting a Team for the NF Walk
Interested in raising even more money for NF research? Start an NF Walk team with your family, friends, classmates, or colleagues.
Forming a Walk team makes it even easier for your acquaintances to join you in your fight to cure NF. Recruiting teammates expands the network of individuals from whom your team can gather donations and encourages more people to get involved. More importantly, walking with friends is a fun way to spread awareness of NF and the work of the Children’s Tumor Foundation.
Other reasons to form a team:
Businesses and schools benefit by supporting teamwork in their institutions. Setting a team goal and striving to achieve that goal fosters a collaborative work environment that transcends into the workplace or classroom. Teaming up for the Walk also provides workers and students with an opportunity to participate in community service and to spend time together outside of their working environment. Walking as a team requires no corporate donation, yet demonstrates an organization’s commitment to local public service.
Groups of friends and families can also benefit from forming a team. Walking together is a fun way for friends, communities, and relatives to get exercise and enjoy the outdoors. Your team will be proud of not only the donations you will raise by combining your efforts, but also for having engaged in a day of healthy activity with loved ones.
Starting a Walk team will better enable you to help fund research for a cure for NF and spread awareness of the disease. Expand your impact and start signing-up teammates today.
When organizing your walk-a-thon you can be creative and flexible; most walks are free and participants are encouraged to raise money through donations. Registered walkers who raise over $100 will receive a free T-shirt.
We encourage you to mobilize teams of friends, families, co-workers and corporate sponsors to host walks in cities across the country for NF. Every step makes a difference!
Where does the money go?
Funds raised through the NF Walk program support the Children’s Tumor Foundation, a non-profit organization that funds world-class research into NF therapies to treat and eventually cure NF.
