The June 27 NASCAR race will honor Pete, who passed away last December after a life-long battle with NF, for his many years of service to the NF community. Pete was a champion for NF research and awareness, running marathons, hosting support groups, golf tournaments and benefit dinners, and serving as the president of the Michigan Chapter of the Children's Tumor Foundation. In recognition of his heroic efforts, a decal honoring Pete will be placed on Burton's No. 31 LENOX Industrial Tools Chevrolet paint scheme and the Dingeman family will serve as Grand Marshals for the race. To further acknowledge the work and life of Dingeman, LENOX will collect fan signatures in his honor throughout the race weekend and make $1 donation to the Children's Tumor Foundation for each signature - for up to $10,000. "LENOX's continued support of the Foundation and all of those who live with NF is the greatest of tributes to Pete," said John Risner, president of the Children's Tumor Foundation. "It speaks to the kind of man Pete was, unwavering in his commitment to the cause. We are honored to share our remembrance of Pete with LENOX and humbled by their commitment to our cause." Last year at the LENOX Industrial Tools 301, Pete was announced as the winner of the LENOX Extra-Mile Hero Contest. Pete was presented with a check for $31,000 for the Children's Tumor Foundation, with an additional $31,000 going to Pete, himself, for being the LENOX Extra-Mile Hero - a portion of which he donated back to the Foundation. "Pete has left us with a legacy of going the extra mile in his community and we want to recognize his dedication and strength by giving back to the cause that meant the most to him - The Children's Tumor Foundation," stated Rich Mathews, vice president of marketing for LENOX. "The LENOX Industrial Tools 301 continues to be a great opportunity for us to connect with our customers and share stories of the everyday heroes among us." The LENOX Industrial Tools 301 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race takes place on Sunday at 1 p.m. at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH.
