National Tea for NF Day PDF Print E-mail

Sunday, May 2, is National Tea for NF Day, a fun and easy way for you to raise critical funds for NF research while bringing friends and family together for a relaxing Spring afternoon.  Click here for more information and see below for a story from the 2009 Spring Newsletter.

(L to R) Randi Shea (with CJ’s sister Logan), Julie Eidman, Erica Hines (CJ’s Mom), Tia
Bennett and CJ at their 2009 Tea Party

“CJ was born just a few months after my son Billy,” says Randi Shea, one of the Tea for NF hosts. “He and Billy are best friends just like his mother and I. He’s such a brave child and an inspiration to Billy and us all. We just wanted to do something to show them how much we care.” The Tea fo NF Program was started by the Children’s Tumor Foundation seven years ago and has raised more than $200,000 for NF research.

The program allows participants to host tea parties at their homes or to share a “virtual” cup of tea via email. Email recipients are then encouraged to pass the message on to their friends and family. The Shea’s and Tia Bennett are promoting the “pay it forward” idea in which contributors donate up $50 or more and ask five friends to do so as well. The hope is that those friends will then also spread the word to fi ve more acquaintances. Additionally, they are also planning to have a silent auction of sports memorabilia that will be auctioned off to raise money for the foundation. Shea along with two other local women, Julie Eidman and Tia Bennett (CJ’s aunt) thought that this would be a wonderful way to spread the word throughout the community about NF and to raise money for a cause close to their hearts.
