The number of open clinical trials for neurofibromatosis is growing!

For the most current neurofibromatosis clinical trials please visit www.clinicaltrials.gov and enter search term 'neurofibromatosis'.

In addition to clinical trials you may be interested in the NF1 clinical studies below!

NF1 and Reading Disabilities: Vanderbilt University
The Vanderbilt University Education and Brain Research Laboratory currently involves a study on Reading Disabilities and Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF-1). We are seeking participants for our studies.  Our current study is for children ages 8-17, with or without NF-1 and with or without Reading Disabilities.  All testing is conducted at the Vanderbilt University campus in downtown Nashville, TN.  The studies include two phases: the first phase (pre-testing) consists of a full day of academic testing and a second day of a 1-2 hour MRI and completion of any written and computer testing; the second phase (post-testing) is several days after pre-testing and includes more written and computer testing and another MRI scan.  One of our studies also offers 15 hours of free tutoring for students that qualify, and while this requires some extra visits, the entire span of participation is usually no more than a week.  For their participation, individuals receive a small payment for visits (how much varies depending on the study), a report of test scores, and a copy of their MRI if requested. NF1 and Learning:  Cincinnati Children’s Hospital
Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is conducting is a research study, sometimes referred to as a clinical trial or clinical study, which measures brain activity in children with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), to evaluate differences in learning and behavior in children and teenagers with NF1 compared to typically developing children, to eventually improve options for treatment.  Children and teenagers 8 to 18 years old with NF1 may be eligible to participate.  The study includes one visit which lasts approximately 3 to 4 hours.  Families will be paid for time and travel.  Contact Amanda Lewis or Donald Gilbert, MD for more information: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Transplantation for the Treatment of Major Facial Deformities

The Brigham and Women’s Hospital has received research funds from the Department of Defense to conduct a study on the outcomes of face transplantation. The face transplantation study will enroll up to 10 patients. These patients may have suffered facial disfigurement beyond conventional reconstructive means due to severe burns or other types of trauma, birth defects, certain types of infections, or facial tumors such as those observed in some patients with neurofibromatosis.  Dr. Bohdan Pomahac and his team can be contacted at:  (617)732-7796 or by email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
