As Team Captain your role is to:

* communicate with your team members on a regular basis
* provide encouragement and advice to your teammates
* stay in touch with Bob, Trish or Tracy with any questions you have regarding your event
* offer support to your team through being available to them via e-mail or other communication measures that work best for you
* HAVE FUN!
* Instill the three C’s to your team: cause, community and celebration (see below)

Cause: Finding a cure for NF by raising dollars for research

Community - Building a strong team

Celebration - The rave is a celebration of the community rallying for the cause. Praise the team members for their hard work; be sure to let them know how the fund raising is going and cheer on the team at your event.

From Bob’s Perspective…

Much of the Team Captain’s role is “virtual”. . . meaning that your job is to help us create as sense of team, help sound the clarion call that we are part of something big and very worthwhile.

It is about generating interest, team spirit, and excitement about the event. Then as we get closer we can, via e-mail, generate dialogue about why we run, encourage the team to get to know one another, and plan to attend the pasta dinner.

At certain events the opportunity to staff the expo booth to recruit new runners is an option depending on time and event activities. Usually coaching the team Sunday is over and above the typical call of duty for a team captain; however we will happily take your assistance if you are willing and needed. You may run/coach - a new kind of triathlon!

Our Team Captain Coordinator, Tracy Draper, can assist you with event preparation as it regards to team communications including gathering NF hero stories, assembling team event e-newsletters (i.e. “reply to all”), offering advice on fundraising and team-building, and coordinating with the team staff on event planning.

Tracy’s goal is to make your role of team captain as seamless as possible. She can help the participants have a fulfilling running experience and meaningful fundraising experience by building the event in terms of number of participants and fundraising dollars. In a nutshell, Tracy will help build strong connections with the team members and create a sense of community and camaraderie.
