REMOVAL OF NF1 TUMORS , part 1,2,3,4,5

Postby not2night » Fri Jan 18, 2008 4:44 pm

I promised you all a play by play of my story of the removal of my NF1 dermal tumors.

Jan 3 had to go to the doc to do blood work and EKG, all came back great.

The doctor the following monday faxed all the paper work from the test to Shamika with Dr
W office.

http://www.hweinbergplasticsurgery.com/

This past monday Jan 14th 2008 had to pay Dr W's office his fee of $5500.

Then on Wednesday Jan 16,2008 the hospital called says I have both in and out nextwork coverage .Their fee for both the Outpatient OR, and Recovery and the anaesthesiologist would be
$7700 , of course I am only responsible for 10% plus some tax that New York has so I will have to pay approx $814. or so dollars. They will bill me. Now I reduced my ded from $5000 to $2200 this year so I will get something back from the $5500 I paid Dr W. and besides I have a
HSA (this year you can put in $5800)

Ok so today Jan 18,2008 the hospital called again. Wanted to know what weighed 104 on a heavy day and about 4'11". Asked lot of questions ie smoke, no, drink once in while,
medicine , no. allergies no, no to every question except for other surgeries, knee and ankle and partical hysterectomy. Ok good to go.

Tomorrow Saturday will go to to inlaws in Northern Va , spend the night, then Sunday AM get up and go to NEW York,

Staying at Mt Sinai Guest Residence. $189 night!! wow NY is very expensive, but it is directly across from hospital and have to be there at 6am!!

I promise to give you a play by play of what happens.

I am scared and somewhat an uncanny calmness too.

Sunday , Ok made it here. made a couple of wrong turns. What was 5 hrs was 7 hrs.

The Guest Residence in nice. If you come, make sure you bring a suitecase with some extra food if you drive. But they may be hard if you fly.

Will keep you, posted after my visit with Dr W tomorrow, have a 1:30 appointment.

Morris the cat/ sallie posted some of my before and after, with the before shots on the next page

REMOVAL OF NF1 TUMORS , part 1,2,3,4,5

Met with Dr. Weinburg he is very very knowledgeable.....

says he has done this over 350 times. has approx 150 or more patients with NF!!
He knows what he is doing. He stated if a doc is going to perform this, they MUST MUST, go deep enough or they will come back!

He says I can come back in 1 or 2 months!
that is good news, I was thinking I would have to wait 6 months!

Tuesday AM

6am at the hospital , to check in
8am surgery
10 or so recovery,
12 back at the Mt Sinai Guest Residence Inn

Walked out of hopsital did not have to have wheel chair, All went well. he was able to do both hands, arms, chest and stomach! WOW !!

looks like I have bad cse of chicken poxs..

a little scratchy throat, Was able to eat left over chineese for lunch and had ICE CREAM!!

He says can take shower tomorrow. Gave prescription for antibiotic so wont get infection. A very very tiny bit of bleeding.
Also gave prescription just in case of pain, but did not get that filled. I feel fine..

Had a couple hours nap after lunch. I am good to go......

But not ready to have my face done yet... I have to look at myself in the mirror.

I am glad everything went well! It seems like he was able to cover a large area on the first go round. Good idea to do it in stages with the face being done in the second stage...great idea. I never thought of that..... it makes me think that this might be something that I may give much more consideration than I have in the past. I am really excited for you!

Just out of curosity...I know his fee is around 5,000....how much were the other fees..those are the ones that concern me...how long are you planning on staying in NY....are you still there?? Are you well enough to sightsee?
