Children’s Tumor Foundation Co-Sponsors Gathering at the NIH to focus on MPNSTs

The Children’s Tumor Foundation is pleased to announce that we will be co-sponsoring, in conjunction with the Center for Cancer Research and the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), a workshop that brings together international experts on the many aspects of malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs), which is a rare cancer that can develop in a small subset of patients with NF1.

Inspired by the “hackathon” model, this meeting will take this novel approach to address the unique challenges inherent in studying complex MPNSTs. Goals include identifying barriers and knowledge gaps while looking for opportunities for progress, and developing a collaborative research agenda.

President and Chief Scientific Officer Annette Bakker, PhD, will lead several working groups outlining a research agenda for the future. Also in attendance from CTF, Hyerim Lee, PhD, Translational Science Project Director, will participate in a working group focused on preclinical models. The keynote address will be given by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Senior Program Officer Shasha Jumbe.
