We passionately pursue and take pride in our mission to “Drive Research, Expand Knowledge, and Advance Care for the NF Community”. This passion and pride are our strength. Those living with NF and their families are our inspiration and help guide everything we do. We seek to always stay aware of and be empathetic to their many challenges. Most importantly, we always remember we do what we do for them.
We work hard. We work smart. We have a bias for action. The product of our work is a result of high intention, sincere effort and skillful execution. It is only through raising expectations and striving for the highest quality work product that we can reach our full potential and achieve our mission. Each of us is empowered to take ownership to get things done and make a difference. We approach all challenges and opportunities with a pro-active and positive attitude.
We are obsessed with maintaining a culture of great service. We continually seek to understand the needs of all of our partners from the NF community, academia, the business world, and government. We aim to surpass their expectations and amaze in every interaction. We respect, care about and advocate for each of our constituents and seek and listen to their feedback recognizing that their perception is our reality. Service is not a department – it is an attitude and everybody’s job. And we adhere to a “Yes Before No” service mindset and reluctantly say no only after exhausting all possibilities of yes.
We work in pursuit of such an important mission and understand that many people are counting on us. We accept responsibility for our actions, hold ourselves accountable for our results, and take ownership of our mistakes. Each of us understands how our individual job responsibilities, actions and behavior contribute to our overall collective success. When things go wrong, we make them right without pointing a finger or blaming others. We operate on a foundation of integrity and trust with each other and our constituents, and we own and live up to the commitments we make.
We drive and embrace innovation and change. From how we engage with patients and donors to how we change the game to accelerate research and development, we are constantly looking for ways that we can take the traditional model and make it better. The status quo is our nemesis. Innovation requires creativity, a broad understanding of our systems and teams, and a commitment to fostering a learning environment. We look ahead to anticipate change, strive to think outside the box, and have confidence in knowing that just because we do things a certain way now doesn’t mean we can’t find a better way.
We are a united and collaborative team. We are supportive of each other’s efforts, loyal to one another and care for and respect each other both personally and professionally. Teamwork comes easy to us because of our passion and dedication to do the absolute best we can to fight our one common enemy. We view our volunteers, donors, researchers, and especially our patients and their families as important team members. “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much ….”
We know achieving our mission requires a very serious focus and commitment. Still, we don’t take ourselves overly seriously. We have fun, smile and laugh as much as possible, and celebrate our successes. We don’t believe this takes away from productivity—we believe it increases it. When you enjoy the people you work with and the environment you work in, it’s much easier to focus your passion toward achieving your goals.
