Story of NF: Michael M.

A young child with curly brown hair and a green and white shirt smiles outdoors with a blurred forest background.

Michael was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) at only two months old. NF has impacted our whole family’s lives. Watching our son deal with this disease and its challenges is very hard as a mother daily, and my other children watching their baby brother jump through hoops is hard to deal with. He has had numerous surgeries, health issues, and has had to go through chemotherapy at only nine months old. A woman stands on a wooded path with three children smiling beside her; the children wear jeans and long-sleeved shirts.

Watching Michael deal with all the issues that come with neurofibromatosis and the fact that he isn’t letting it keep him down. He deals with whatever life throws at him with the biggest smile on his face, and that is a blessing.

Michael can build anything with his magnets and loves books. Michael goes to preschool and is the baby (brother) to three older siblings who absolutely adore him.
