Call for applications for MPNST research projects from Boston Children’s Hospital

By August 6, 2019February 28th, 2024Collaborations & Partnerships

The NF Research Initiative at Boston Children’s Hospital opened two grant opportunities for projects that will create a Synodos-like consortium for patient-derived xenograft (PDX) and organoids MPNST that will lead to new models for MPNST and identify new therapeutics.

RFA for an NF1-Related MPNST Patient-Derived Model Development and Testing Centers (MDTCs)

RFA for an NF1-Related MPNST Data Coordination Center to Support Patient-Derived Model Development and Testing Centers

The NF1 Research Initiative (NFRI) mission is to advance pre-clinical research towards effective treatment of neurofibromatosis-related tumors. The initial focus of the NFRI will be on malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs), for which there is currently no effective medical treatment.

The purpose of these RFAs, worth $1.5M, is to produce actionable pre-clinical data about response to single agent and combination agents using patient-derived NF1-related MPNST models such as PDX and organoids, with the goal of informing human clinical trials for NF1-related MPNST. These awards will support a project similar to the National Cancer Institute’s PDX_net.
