Schwannomatosis Study Funded by the Children’s Tumor Foundation Published in “Nature Genetics”

Changes to a gene called LZTR1 predispose people to develop schwannomas near nerve pathways according to a study published today in the journal Nature Genetics. The study was led by researchers from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and the University of Gdansk in Poland, and was partially funded by the Children’s Tumor Foundation.

This study was conceived and coordinated by Ludwine Messiaen, Ph.D., director of the Medical Genomics Laboratory and professor in the Division of Clinical Genetics in the Department of Genetics within the UAB School of Medicine, and Arkadiusz Piotrowski, recipient of a Young Investigator Award from the Children’s Tumor Foundation, at the University of Gdansk in Poland.
